Ep34: Christians Should Talk MORE About Politics? And Why the Church Should Lead that Convo
In this week's episode of Christianly, we begin a month-long conversation about Christians, the church, and politics as the November 3 midterm elections approach. In this first podcast, we respond to @BobTheBaptistTV’s recent warning that online political content is fracturing Christians and creating division within local churches. We affirm that the answer is not to retreat from difficult conversations, but to bring them back into the life of the local church, where Christians can learn to submit their convictions to Scripture and receive the pastoral accountability that online echo chambers cannot provide. In this episode, we champion the idea that the local church must become a place where Christians are equipped to think biblically about politics before the algorithms and influencers do the discipling for them. But we should not be surprised, then, when the fruit of this effort results in our churches becoming more politically engaged. A church that takes every corner of Christ’s lordship seriously will not remain timid or suspicious when politics touches the lives of its people. And that may make the church look very different from the politically apathetic church of the past few generations: more discerning, more engaged, and a whole lot saltier in a culture that desperately needs the preservative nature of God’s grace.
